TM30 and TM28 registration of foreigners at the place of residence

The registration of aliens at their place of residence in Thailand is regulated by the 1979 Immigration Act.

According to Art. 38 of the Act, to report the form TM30 is the responsibility of the hotel owner, guesthouse, landlord or apartment / house owner

Reporting according to Art. 37 the form TM28 is the exclusive responsibility of every foreigner in Thailand.

According to subsection 3 Art.37, an alien must register with the local police at the place of residence within 24 hours of arrival in the country. Also, this form must be submitted when changing the place of residence, again within 24 hours.

According to part 4 of this article, if a foreigner leaves the province for more than 24 hours, he must register with the local police in another province within 48 hours of arrival.

For example, you are traveling for the weekend from Pattaya to Bangkok and stay in hotel. You and the hotel have obligations:

- The hotel must report on your visit the form TM30

- You must contact the police with a form TM28

- Upon returning to Pattaya, you again submit the TM28 form to the local police.

In September 2019, the immigration service established the categories of foreigners who are exempt from reporting the form TM28: holders of a business visa, investment visa, education visa, visas for highly qualified specialists. Tourists also should not report every time they move to another place.

Holders of retirement visas, marriage or follow visa are not included in this list and must report each time they change their place of residence or stay for more than 24 hours.
