Teachers and Students visas: chance to renew without leaving the country?

The Association of Private Schools for Non-Formal Education of Thailand has written to the Government with a proposal to change visa restrictions for foreign teachers and students and to allow teachers and students who are already in the country to extend their visas without leaving.

A proposal was also made to allow foreign teachers and students who are in Thailand to stay here until the end of the month so that universities can prepare documents for the extension of work permits and student visas during this period.

Teachers with expired work permits should be given an additional 30 days of stay in Thailand to prepare documents for new permits.

Foreigners with tourist visas or other types of visas should be allowed to switch to a teacher or student visa without leaving the country.

The reason for this offer is that there is currently a shortage of foreign teachers in the country and many have left Thailand due to the pandemic. Simplifying visa procedures will help rectify the situation.
