Foreign currency regulations


Foreign currencies can be transferred or brought into Thailand without limit. The recipient of the foreign currency must exchange it for Thai baht or place it on a bank account. If the amount of exchanging or placing on a bank account foreign currency exceeds USD 20,000, then the application form for getting document on the transaction with the involving of the foreign currency must be filled (Tor Tor 3)

Local currency

There is no restriction on the amount of Thai baht banknotes that may be brought into the country.

A person traveling to Vietnam, the People's Republic of China (only Yunnan province) and Thailand's bordering countries is allowed to take out up to THB 2,000,000. Taking out Thai Baht banknotes in an amount exceeding THB 450,000 requires declaration to a Customs Officer.

A person traveling to other countries is allowed up to THB 50,000.
